Svetoslav (Svet) Velkov

Company manager

I graduated master’s degree in zoology. My first job was at the environmental NGO BALKANI Wildlife Society, where I worked on different projects from wetland conservation to large carnivores conservation.

After 3 years in the NGO sector, I started working as a birdwatching guide for a Danish tour operator. My carrier in tourism developed as I held different manager positions and as of 2009, I’m a manager and co-owner of tour operator Traventuria.

Despite my work in the tourism industry, my heart lies in the field of nature protection. In the past 10 years, I managed to dedicate time to various environmental and scientific projects. I’ve been involved in the conservation of the Danube sturgeons, campaigns to restore the Dragoman marsh, bird monitoring, bird ringing camps and recently the protection of the Egyptian vulture in Bulgaria and along its migratory route.
